ONE POT Kielbasa & Onion Pasta
If you are a fan of the One Pot Dinner Recipe like I am, this one is going to be perfect for you and your busy family. Not only is it a one pot meal, it is quick, easy and full of hearty ingredients that will fill up and satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.
When I put this recipe together, I was trying to use up items I already had in the pantry. It was time to put together our Menu Plan for the week, and I wanted to use up what I already had before bringing in more groceries.
As soon as I took the first bite, I knew I had to share how I made it with you guys. Since you all loved the Crock Pot Pierogi Casserole with Kielbasa, I just knew you would love this one too! The flavors were outstanding. Spicy kielbasa (you can use Polish Sausage if you are not a fan of the spice) and a creamy cheese sauce all cooked together with whatever pasta you have in your pantry make this one pot dinner recipe very satisfying.

One Pot Dinner Recipe Kielbasa and Onion Pasta!
Ingredients:
- 2 Tablespoons oil
- 1 large onion – chopped
- 1 14 oz package smoked kielbasa sliced into coins
- 2 cloves garlic – chopped
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 2 10 oz cans petite diced tomatoes (do not drain)
- 1 cup whole milk (use a whole milk substitute if you’re in a pinch)
- 1 Tablespoon chopped parsley
- 1 16 oz. box penne pasta
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
- salt & pepper to taste
Directions:
In a deep skillet (I used my 12-inch electric skillet) on medium heat, heat the oil. Once the oil is hot, saute the onions and kielbasa. Until the onions are translucent and the kielbasa has a nice crust around the edges.
Add in the garlic, stir and cook for a minute or two until soft. Be careful not to burn it.
Pour in the chicken broth, diced tomatoes, milk, parsley, and pasta. Cook until the pasta is al dente. Stirring often so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the skillet.
Once the pasta is al dente, season with salt and pepper to taste.
Top with both types of cheese.
Remove from the heat and put a lid on your skillet. Just to help melt the cheese.
Serve with crusty garlic bread to sop up all of that flavorful sauce!
Not a fan of Kielbasa? This recipe can also be made with chicken, pork or even bacon if you like!

This looks so good Heather! My hubby loves kielbasa and I’m going to have to make this dish for his this weekend for sure! What a creative way to kick kielbasa up a notch!
Oh he will love it I’m sure!! Thanks so much Carolann 🙂
This recipe is a keeper! Super easy, quick, and picky hubby and little girl loved it. I used white cooking wine because I ran out of broth, and I cut up some fresh tomatoes with half a jar of sundried tomatoes instead of canned because that’s all I had. And with the proper portions it did not raise my blood sugar!
So glad you enjoyed this. I love that you added sundried tomatoes. I will have to try that myself, they are so yummy!
Oh my, this looks so delish! I’ll have to try this recipe! Great post.
Thank you Janine! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
wow, that looks so yummy! I might have to try that this week – my kiddos actually like kielbasa 🙂 thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Christy! It sure is nice when you find something the kids and/or picky eaters will love. This was a hit with the picky teens. Hope you’re able to give it a try!
I don’t think I have ever had smoked kielbasa, but would like to try it and it looks delicious and good to know can be used with chicken too. I never seem to make “enough” sometimes and this recipe looks like it would feed a lot.
Thanks Sue! Yes, it made quite a bit. We had left overs for days, and it reheats wonderfully too.
This looks so delicious and I’m sure it will be a BIG hit in our house! I’m sure hubby will enjoy any left overs for his lunch! Hope your move goes well !
Thank you Sam! The move is done but chaos everywhere LOL slowly but surely I suppose. I hope you’re able to give it a try, it reheated well for left overs too. A hit all around!
Wow moving and you still cooked you rock. And this looks super yummy tooo. I usually eat take out for a week before and after move. But love that first home cooked meal.
Believe me, we have had take out more times than I would like to admit! This is so quick and easy it’s almost faster than take out!! You will love it.
Heather this looks scrumptious! I make something similar with root veggies and sausage. I’ll have to try your recipe! Thanks for the great blog post!
That sounds great Janine! I love veggies of all kinds. Thanks so much for stopping by.
This looks yummy! I’m fixing it for dinner tonight. One question: the recipe calls for two 10 oz. cans of petite diced tomatoes. Is this correct? Our standard size cans are 14 oz. I’m going to guesstimate the amount. I can always add more liquid if necessary. ?
I plan on making this sometime this week. But I’ll be using turkey kielbasa, coconut milk, no cheese, and topping a zucchini and lentil pasta with it. It looks amazing. But I also could only find 14oz cans of tomatoes. Any advice for that? Also, any advice for time to cook if I’m not adding the pasta? (It comes in a steamable bag)
Hi Justine, The 14oz. cans will be fine it is not that much more. Just add what you think would satisfy you if you don’t want to add the whole can. As far as time to cook, after adding the liquids, I would just let it cook for a few minutes so the flavors marry together. since most of the cooking time is to cook the regular pasta through. Since you are not adding the cheese, there is no need to cover and cook additional time. Your recipe switches sound delicious and healthy! I hope everything turns out wonderful!
I don’t like tomatoes. Can I substitute maybe tomato sauce?
Or what would you recommend?
That would be fine. maybe simmer a bit longer to reduce the sauce some more.
I just made this for dinner. I used macaroni, skim milk and turkey kielbasa (because that’s what I had on hand) and it was delicious! My 4 yr old had seconds. I love easy and delicious one skillet meals like this! This is going on regular rotation. Thanks!
That sounds perfect!! I am so glad you and your family enjoyed it!
Made this recipe tonight, it was soooo good! My family absolutely loved it and it was so easy to make. I used half and half instead of whole milk so it was a little creamier which was so good!!!
Creamier is always good! I will have to try that too, or at least half milk half half & half. Great substitution.
Made this tonight. Didn’t have kielbasa but did have a beef smoked sausage so used that instead. Picky kids loved it!
I’m so glad! I love a recipe that you can substitute things and it is still delish!
Very tasty!! I used one can of fire roasted diced tomatoes and one regular and my family devoured it! Thanks so much!
Wow! I just made this for dinner and it’s sooooo good! I halved the recipe and it was the perfect amount for me and my husband with enough for leftovers for lunch tomorrow! My picky 7 year old wouldn’t eat it…but just more for us. Lol.
Just made it. Delicious! Super easy. Goes into the keep pile. Daughter recommended I add more smoked kielbasa next time.
What did I do wrong? I was expecting a thick creamy sauce and mine turned out watery. Good flavor, but I need to correct the sauce.
Hi Bonnie, did you cook the pasta in the sauce? The pasta should absorb quite a bit of the sauce. If you were adding already-cooked pasta into the sauce that could create a watery sauce.
