Fruity Pebbles Treats (Microwave and Stove)

Fruity Pebbles Treats might be great for kids, but they’re equally spectacular for adults. With as few as five ingredients and able to make them on the stove or the microwave, you can’t go wrong!

Fruity Pebbles bring me right back to childhood. I remember waking up on the weekend and pouring myself a bowl of cereal. More often than not, it was Fruity Pebbles. I also remember eating them in high school right from the box. You could say that they’ve followed me throughout my life. I now make Fruity Pebbles Treats for my family.

How to Make Fruity Pebbles Rice Krispie Treats

Who has time to bake dessert? My point exactly. Below are two different ways, stovetop, and microwave, to whip up these delicious snacks.

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 5 cups Fruity Pebbles Cereal
  • 6 cups mini marshmallows (you can also use the full-sized ones, but these will melt faster)
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or a vanilla extract substitute)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (about a pinch of salt)

Instructions

  1. With cooking spray or butter, grease an 8×8 baking dish. You can then line the pan with parchment paper if you’d like for easier cleanup, but it’s not necessary.
  2. In a large saucepan on low heat, melt the butter. Make sure to stir frequently so the butter doesn’t burn.
  3. Next, stir in the mini marshmallow to the melted butter, also stirring frequently.
  4. Once the butter and marshmallows are melted, remove the mixture from the heat and add the Fruity Pebbles, salt, and vanilla extract.
  5. Finally, using a buttered spatula (so it doesn’t stick), fold your fruity pebbles mixture into your baking dish and press it flat and into all the corners.
  6. Let your crispy treats rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes below slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Recipe Note

After you cut your cereal treats into squares, store them in an air-tight container with wax paper between layers. This will prevent the layers from sticking to one another.

Making Fruity Pebble Treats in the Microwave

Making Fruity Pebbles Treats is super easy with a microwave instead of a stove. It’s perfect for those summer months when you’re craving a sweet snack but don’t want to use the stove. Just follow the directions below:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt your butter in the microwave in 30-second increments. It should take about 30 seconds to 1 minute. But keep an eye on it! You don’t want it to bubble over.
  2. Next, add your marshmallows and mix with the melted butter. Return to the microwave for a minute or two until the mixture is melted.
  3. Now, you can pour the teaspoon vanilla extract and the remaining ingredients into a large pot or bowl and follow the remaining instructions above. Enjoy!

Mistakes to Avoid Making Cereal Treats

Watch Your Heat

Like in most recipes where you need low heat, so you need to go low-and-slow. Butter burns easily, as well as marshmallows. And what are marshmallows made out of? You guessed it! Lots of sugar.

Use Enough Marshmallows

Don’t worry about going overboard on the marshmallows. If you don’t use enough, your treat could become dry and not be moist. When in doubt, add more! The worst thing that can happen? You add more cereal.

Don’t Use Old Marshmallows

Marshmallows do get old, especially if the bag is open. So when making any kind of cereal treat, make sure to grab a new bag. Old marshmallows won’t melt into the creamy fluff you need but can create a giant blob of goo that’s hard to work with.

But if you have old marshmallows lying around, we’ve got you covered. Here are some ideas to use up old and leftover marshmallows.

How to Store Leftover Fruity Pebble Treats

The best way to store cereal treats is in an airtight container at room temperature. This will prevent them from drying out and becoming stale. It’s essential to ensure the container is completely sealed so that no air can get in and affect the texture of the treats.

You can also store them in the refrigerator if you prefer a firmer texture, but bring them back to room temperature before serving. In either case, keep them away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent them from melting or becoming soft.

In an airtight container, your fruity pebble treats should last for a few days on the counter. They’ll last significantly longer in the refrigerator. But let’s be honest. These sweet treats aren’t going to last very long 😉

Can You Freeze Fruity Pebble Treats?

You can definitely freeze Fruity Pebbles Treats. To do so, wrap the treats tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place them in a freezer-safe container. This will help to prevent them from drying out and becoming stale.

When you’re ready to enjoy the treats, simply remove them from the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature. The texture may be slightly different than stored at room temperature, but they will still be delicious.
