When it comes to desserts in the summer, I always tend to lean towards the fruity, refreshing treats. This Frozen Orange Dreamsicle Dessert is a delicious fruity and cool treat for those hot summer nights. Made with just a few ingredients and no cooking required, anyone can whip this sweet treat up in no time. Yes, even YOU!
The secret to any frozen pie or no bake dessert is most definitely in the crust! I know what you’re thinking. “It’s Graham Cracker Crust! Anyone can buy one at the store!” Sure, you can buy it in the store ready made for your favorite recipes, and that would do the trick just fine. But once you have made your own at home, you will see 1. How easy it is and 2. How much better it really does taste than the store bought crust.
Before we get into the Frozen Orange Dreamsicle Dessert recipe, let’s take a quick minute to make that incredible sweet and crunchy Graham Cracker Crust shall we?
Graham Cracker Crust – from scratch!
Ingredients:
- 18 – 20 “sheets” graham crackers (2 sleeves) – crushed fine
- 3/4 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Butter (1 stick) melted and still warm
Directions:
Mix together the graham cracker crumbs and sugar until combined.
Mix in the warm melted butter until you get a texture that resembles a crumble.
Press the crumb mixture into a 9×13 baking pan or (2) 8″ pie tins. Use the bottom of a measuring cup to really press the crumbs into the bottom and up the side slightly of the pan. Chill for 30 minutes.
*If you are making a baked dessert with a graham cracker crust, bake the crust for 5 – 7 minutes in a 350 degree oven before adding your recipe ingredients.
Now that we have the BEST Graham Cracker Crust made and ready for the rest of the irresistable ingredients, let’s get to the good stuff!
Frozen Orange Dreamsicle Dessert
Ingredients:
- 1 Pre-made Graham Cracker Crust (see above)
- 1 32 oz. container of orange sherbert – softened
- 1 half gallon vanilla ice cream – softened
- crushed graham crackers for garnish (optional)
Directions:
In a bowl, fold together the sherbert and vanilla ice cream GENTLY. You don’t want to mix them completely. We’re looking for a marbled look of orange and white here. When the 2 are mixed, pour into your prepared Graham Cracker Crust you made earlier. Smooth out the ice cream evenly with a spatula and chill for at least 30 minutes or until set. Sprinkle the top with graham cracker crumbs to garnish. Serve frozen!
Take a look at how creamy and refreshing this looks up close. And how about that crust!?!? It is probably a half an inch thick! So crunchy and sweet, you will be happy you made it from scratch.
If you love the nostalgic flavor of a creamsicle, this recipe is a MUST make! I hope you love it as much as we do. Not a fan of orange sherbert? That’s OK! Try it with lime or raspberry instead!
