We are always looking for ways to update our rental and give it an Easy Farmhouse Look DIY style. When I discovered I could do this quickly and easily using wallpaper from Walls Republic, I was intrigued. Most people are intimidated by wallpaper, myself included, so I was a little skeptical but still anxious to give it a try. The selections available now have come a long way from those bright yellow and orange florals that grandma had on her dining room wall. Remember those? The selections you will find now include everything from stunning blooming trees, faux brick, gorgeous damask print, patterned wood, and my favorite choice natural looking wood.

Since we do rent our home, I was looking for something that was not completely permanent. We do have permission to paint and make improvements to the home as we wish. That being said, not everyone’s taste is the same. If they don’t like it, it can easily be removed when we decide to move.
I knew from the moment we walked in the door to see the house that I would have to redo the kitchen. At the very least I would have to paint the cabinets immediately! They were a dark maroon red, faded and chipped, and just not something I would be able to look at every day. The red had to go .. like yesterday!
After a coat of Kilz primer and 2 coats of grab n go white paint from Walmart, they were so much more appealing. The walls, however, were a golden, yellow, baby poop yellow and needed some serious TLC. It wasn’t until I discovered the Walls Republic website and their wide selection of exquisite wallpaper, I knew exactly the look I wanted to achieve. An Easy Farmhouse Look that was simple, yet rustic and stylish. Since I couldn’t install actual shiplap to the walls, I requested my 5 FREE Samples from Walls Republic. The samples were a good size. You could really see how the different patterns would look in the room.
I chose Cool Grey Timberland Wood. This would look fantastic with my green/natural accents and perfect against the fresh white cabinets.
After I cleaned and prepped all the walls, I measured as I went along. This wallpaper comes in a vertical wood pattern on the roll, I wanted the wood to go horizontal in the kitchen. I used Zinsser DIF Universal Wallcovering & Border Adhesive. It is simple to use, and not a permanent solution. When I do decide to move, I can remove the wallpaper easily if the owners are not a fan.
The pattern on this timberland wallpaper was very easy to match up. The wood looks like it is continuous around the entire kitchen. I am still amazed how REAL this looks. The details in each piece are so natural, yet rustic. The perfect solution to getting an Easy Farmhouse Look without having to take down walls and rebuild.
How To Achieve An Easy Farmhouse Look Using Beautiful Wallpaper
A few accessories in different shades of green and some black made the kitchen walls just pop. Everything looks like it was meant to go together naturally. Most of them I already had on hand, the greenery on the mini boxwood wreaths are from the same company that helped me create the Faux Birchwood Vases a few months ago. I love them! I will have the how to up on making those very soon. Such a simple, yet elegant touch.
