When it comes to flower arranging and gardening of any kind, my skills are quite lacking. That is why I turned to beautiful artificial flowers and faux elements when I was creating this DIY Birch Wood Vase for the dining room centerpiece. I just adore the look of birch bark, however, finding it around here is near impossible. Creating the centerpiece with faux birch bark is the next best thing. Since it is artificial, it will also last forever.

I have been looking for artificial flowers that are not only beautiful but as life like as possible for a little while now. When we came across the Afloral website, the selections and price were exactly what we were looking for. Stunning artificial flowers that not only look realistic but also won’t break the bank.
I knew I wanted to create a centerpiece for the Dining Room Buffet before I even started shopping. Something elegant with a touch of spring to brighten up the room after the drab winter we have had. What better way to do that than colorful hydrangeas! I knew I wanted white and blue or purple to match the lilacs also found on Afloral.com.
What to put these gorgeous flowers in was the next question. Since I can’t find birch wood or even birch bark anywhere close to home, using faux birch bark paper was the next best option. Lucky for me, this is also available on the Afloral.com website.
Just look at all that texture! There are even small spots covered with moss, crackled areas, and grain like you wouldn’t believe. It was simply beautiful. You can pick up a sheet of birch paper that is almost 2 feet wide and 5 feet long for less than $10! That is my kind of price for sure.
Here is how we made our DIY Birch Wood Vase step by step.
Supplies:
Sturdy cardboard tube
Faux Birch Paper from Afloral.com
Artificial flowers (we used hydrangeas and lilacs)
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Gold Charger or another sturdy base
Twinkle lights
Directions:
Cut your heavy cardboard tube to the size you desire. We did three different sizes just to add a bit of dimension.
Cut and cover each tube with faux birch paper from Afloral.com. Secure with hot glue generously.
Trim off any excess paper, leaving about 1/4 an inch over the cardboard. Fold the excess paper inside the tube, gluing where needed. This will give the top and bottom of the vase a smooth edge.
If you are using more than one tube, secure them together with a bit of hot glue. If you are only using one tube, skip this step.
Place your DIY Birch Wood Vase on to the base of your choice. Fill with gorgeous spring flowers that you love. Add fake snow and twinkle lights to give it a finished look. It also works great as a night light, or mood lighting perfect for an evening party.
Look at how the white twinkle lights reflect off the “snow”. It really does add that special something that we were looking for in our dining room. The fact that it took all of about an hour to put this piece together was an added bonus. The right material, beautiful flowers, birch paper from Afloral, and a vision is all that was needed to create this elegant DIY Birch Wood Vase. I can see it having a place in our home for a very long time.

How clever you are to make the vases from the cardboard. Love the flower arrangement, too. Well done!
Wow! When I first saw the photo I thought the vases were from Afloral as well. It is amazing that you made them. I would have never thought to use a cardboard tube. Very nice! You always have the great ideas!
Beautiful, Heather. I love how real the birch wood looks. The flowers are just so pretty too.
We had a Birch tree just off the patio for years until it got sick and I dearly miss it so your project with the faux birch paper vase and flowers really touched my heart. Afloral has so many nice products. They really are a great decorating company.
