I am so excited to bring you this Stars & Stripes Forever tutorial today! I know we are just barely starting the Spring season, but when one of my favorite people on the planet shares her creations with me, I am 110% honored to share them with you! The fact that this American Flag Craft is the most adorable thing I have seen in forever, is irrelevant. My favorite part about this project is that you can find the materials completely for free! Well the base anyway, you will still need to buy the spray paint.

This project was created by my Aunt Vicki. She found the materials to make this stunning rustic flag right in my Grams old garden. How cool is that? She will always have a reminder of my Gram hanging on her front door during the summer months. I have such fond memories of working out in that garden when I was a little girl too. Picking strawberries, flowers, and so many delicious vegetables. We would spend hours down in the garden as kids. So this project has an extra special place in my heart for sure.
Here is what you will need to make your own Stars & Stripes Forever Outdoor Summer Decor!
Supplies:
- 6 pieces of wood, cut to 22 inches. (Old fence posts work and look wonderful for this project!)
- 2 scrap pieces of wood (for the back of your piece)
- Spray Paint – Red, White & Blue
- Small Wood Stars (Found at your local craft store)
- Rope for hanging

Directions:
Spray Paint your wood pieces – 3 red 3 white. Once they are dry, you will want to add the blue section to 2 of the red and 1 of the white pieces of wood (The blue area measures 8 inches in from the left edge.)
Once your red white and blue boards are completely dry, turn them over and secure together with the scrap pieces of wood and a few small nails.
Paint your stars white, and hot glue them evenly spaced in the blue section of the flag, as seen above. You could also hand paint the stars if you are not able to find the wooden ones.
Add a rope or hooks to the back for hanging, and display proudly on your front door, your garden gate or anywhere you want to show your American Pride!
I am so happy that my Aunty Vicki shared this project with me! It really is a great afternoon craft for anyone! I think even the kids would have a blast making this. With a little spray paint supervision of course! I hope we have inspired you to get out there and recycle those fence posts! Create something wonderful today!
I love you Aunty!!

What a great job she did. I love it. It’s so patriotic too! Great for the 4th!
Thank you! I just love it and can’t wait to make my own!
I made something similar out of a pallet. Yours looks awesome. Thanks for linking at #HomeMattersParty this week. Hope to see you link back up next week.
A pallet is a great idea too! and probably easier to find unless you have a broken fence or know someone who just has it laying around. Love that idea!
Such a great project and can you be used for labor/memorial/veterns days as well i love it great job to you Aunt
definitely! I just love the rustic look of it.
Thank you very much my beautiful niece. I feel so honored to have you display my flag and your sweet words mean so much to me. Thank you to all of the nice comments. I enjoyed making this flag which is so easy, give it a try. Have a great day!
Of course !! It is a wonderful project, and it came out so cute!
I am totally in love with this. It came out awesome – great job 🙂
Thank you Robin!
This is too cute and I love that you took something that would just have been thrown out and turned it into something so beautiful! Great job!
Thank you so much Jeanette. It was lots of fun!
This is a great patriotic project to make with old wood you may have laying around. Good 4th of July project for the kids.
Kids would have a blast I bet! Thanks for stopping by.
Oh my goodness I love how that turned out! What a fun project!
Thank you Kim!
This is awesome. I love this and I actually think I have everything to make it. I have been trying to figure out what to make for our camper (everyone hangs little signs) and I think this would be perfect!
I would love to see it if you make it. The camper is a great idea. How fun!
Our fence needed to be replaced, but I made sure we saved all the wood. I knew the right project would come along for all of that wood. This would be great for some of the smaller pieces I have collected.
Oh definitely! I was also thinking garden markers but the fencing might be a little to big for that. Maybe popsicle sticks!
It looks awesome on that wood. What a great way to celebrate!
Thank You Liz!
I made a huge one out of a pallet a few years ago. They are so much fun aren’t they! Your’s turned out darling.
Thank you! I think a pallet is awesome, and probably easier to find for sure.
Pallets are the best. Your flag looks terrific.
