This adorable (and easy) DIY Paper craft can be whipped up and completed in just an afternoon. 3-D paper stars can be used for so many decorating and decor ideas around the house. I am in the process of transforming my kitchen from a beach theme to a country/primitive theme. Over the weekend, I was looking for some fun accents to add around the kitchen without breaking the bank. I remember making these 3-d paper stars years ago and how easy they were to do. They remind me of the tin country stars you see on the outside of country homes. For a fraction of the cost, I can make as many as I need in any size or color that I desire!
Want to make your own 3-D Paper Star decorations? Just follow these quick and easy steps, and you will have them done in no time. Here is how we did it.
Draw or print your favorite 5-point star shape on the paper of your choice. We used this one from Family Crafts @about.com I made mine on light colored card stock with the intentions of painting them black, red and tan. You could also use patterned scrapbooking paper in your favorite color or pattern.
Trace or print your star shape on the back side of the paper of your choice.
Carefully cut out the star.
Using a ruler, draw a line from the tip of the point to the indent directly opposite of the point you are starting at. Repeat this for all 5 points. There should be 5 drawn lines.
Score along the drawn lines using the dull side of the scissors to make a crease. Fold at the crease of each line. Turn the star over so your pattern or the right side is facing up now.
Push in the sections between each point to make your 3-D shape.
You can leave it as is or paint it any color you wish. We chose to paint ours red, black and tan to match the new kitchen colors.
I am thinking of making a larger one using poster board for the front door. These adorable paper stars are easy enough for kids to create as well. Hang them using double sided scotch tape, or hanging putty.
