I love a good messy meatball sub as much as the next guy! But let’s face it, sometimes they are just to messy! Hard to handle when you’re walking around a party for sure. Well, here is the solution: Meatball subs on a stick. Yes, on a stick!
What are Meatball Subs on a Stick?
A meatball sub on a stick is exactly what it sounds like! It’s a meatball sub that has been put on a stick so that it is easier to eat. This is a great option for parties or gatherings where you don’t want to deal with the mess that comes along with eating a traditional meatball sub.
Best cheese to pair with your Meatball sub?
Mozzarella cheese is great with meatball subs because it is a mild cheese that doesn’t overpower the flavor of the meatballs. It also has a nice, creamy texture that goes well with the sauce and the bread.
Can I use frozen meatballs or homemade meatballs for this recipe?
Yes! You can use frozen meatballs for this recipe (remember this is an easy recipe). However, if you have a delicious meatball recipe that you love, you can use that recipe as well. Just make sure to prep and cook your homemade meatballs if you decide to go that route.
Alright, that is enough background. Here’s how to make them…..
Ingredients:
- Frozen meatballs, thawed (or your favorite recipe, cooked ahead)
- Pizza dough in a can (in the refrigerated biscuit sections of your grocery)
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- Marinara Sauce
- Wooden skewers – soaked for at least 30 minutes in water so they don’t burn
Instructions

- Roll out the pizza dough just a bit to thin it out. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips. about an inch and a half wide.
Start skewering your sticks .. start with the dough, then a meatball, pull the dough around the meatball as shown in the picture above. until you are able to finish with the dough last. - Bake in 350 degree oven for 8 – 10 minutes until dough is golden brown and meatballs are cooked through.
Sprinkle on the mozz. cheese after you pull it out of the oven. It will melt fast. - Serve with warm marinara sauce and enjoy!
Now you can serve these tasty little treats at any gathering and you wont have to worry about all of the mess that comes along with them.
People will definitely be talking about how cleaver and resourceful you are when these babies show up on a platter! They look great too!
