Crispy Green Bean Fries with Spicy Dipping Sauce

When I find a great deal on produce, I have a hard time passing it up. This week it just happened to be perfect and fresh green beans at the local grocery store. As you know already the teens are pretty picky, especially when it comes to vegetables other than corn or peas. After doing a little poking around on Pinterest to see just what I could do with these green beans other than just steam them, I found many recipes for Crispy Green Bean Fries. They all sounded fabulous, but I was missing a very important ingredient, breadcrumbs. How did I miss that at the grocery store this week? Now that I was craving Crispy Green Bean Fries before dinner, I had to improvise with what I had on hand. This is what I came up with.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. Fresh green beans – washed and the ends trimmed off

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

After washing and cleaning your green beans, sprinkle 1 Tbs of cornstarch over them and stir to coat each one as much as you can. Adding the corn starch will help the egg mixture stick to the green beans.

In a small bowl mix together the egg, sriracha and milk.

Pour your cracker crumbs into a separate bowl.

Working with a few green beans at a time, dip them into the egg mixture then into the crackers coating on both sides.

Place your coated green beans onto a non greased baking sheet. Close together, but not touching.

Bake for 10 minutes on each side. If the coating starts to come off when you go to turn them, just cook on one side. You could also turn the broiler on for just a few minutes to brown the tops if you prefer.

Remove from the baking pan and serve warm with Spicy Sriracha Dipping Sauce.

To make the Spicy Sriracha Dipping Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbs ketchup
  • 1 Tbs Sriracha (add more or less depending on how much heat you like)
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until well combined.

There you have it! My version of Crispy Green Bean Fries with Spicy Dipping Sauce!  These were pretty easy to make and tasted fantastic. Yes, even the picky teens tried them and ate a few. You can replace the cracker crumbs with panko bread crumbs also if that’s what you have on hand. I am pretty happy we didn’t have any breadcrumbs to be honest. The crackers added just the right amount of salt and the buttery taste went great with the fresh green beans. The crispy texture was perfect and didn’t fall right off like I was afraid it would.

We will definitely be making these again.

Have you ever had a happy accident when it came to cooking? Replacing one ingredient only to find out you liked the replacement even more than the original?
