When it comes to having a productive morning that is stress-free and successful, an effective morning routine is essential. By changing just a few habits in the morning, you will set the tone for the rest of the day ahead.
With 2 very busy teenage boys, I can’t even begin to think what would happen if we didn’t implement a routine or a plan in the morning. Work schedules and classes start very early in the day and run til way past dinner time on some evenings. Having a routine in place keeps us on track and lends a hand to a successful and productive morning.
I never use to be much of a morning person. As you get older, it really is true that you wake up earlier and go to bed earlier every day. Ok, that go to bed earlier part is still not true for me. Since the boys are older, I don’t have to worry too much about when they go to bed, did they do their homework etc. They are really good about their daily routines as well. That all starts in the morning, with the right mindset to start the day.
That being said, I would like to share with you our top 5 tips.
5 Effective And Successful Tips For A Productive Morning
(1) Wake Up Earlier
This one may take a little time to adjust to, but waking up 30 – 60 minutes earlier than your normal scheduled time will do wonders for your personal mindset. Use this time for YOU. Relax, enjoy a fresh hot cup of coffee, read the newspaper, get in a little exercise. Whatever you do for yourself for personal enjoyment. Before the kids get up, before the husband stops snoring, take time for yourself.
(2) Make Your Bed
I have said this before, and I will say it again. As soon as you are up for the day, make your bed completely. Something about having a fully made bed in the morning gives you a sense of accomplishment. Not to mention it looks really pretty. At the end of a long tiring day, the last thing you want to do is make your bed just to crawl in it and mess it up again anyway.
(3) Eat a good breakfast
We have heard this since we were children, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” I have to agree with this statement. Starting your day with a good hearty meal is important.
I also know time is of the essence in the morning. That is why I like to turn to my local Walmart store for quick, easy and satisfying solutions that will get breakfast on the table in no time, without sacrificing flavor.

(4) Create A Daily Schedule
There are so many benefits to planning out your day using a schedule. Your time is precious, and you are more efficient and have a much more productive morning when your day is planned in advance. Keep track of appointment times, work schedules, practices and events using a planner. Taking care to not overlap, and don’t forget to pencil in a little “me time” halfway through your day.
(5) Get Dressed – Fully
One of the most important tips I can give you so that you have a successful and productive morning is to get completely dressed. When I say completely I mean fully dressed, right down to your shoes. This is more of a mental tip than a physical one. When you are fully dressed, you are more likely to keep moving, stop lounging and get going. If you lay around in sweatpants (don’t get me wrong, I love a good comfy pair of sweatpants!) you are going to do exactly that, lay around.
Being fully dressed and ready for your day trains your mind that you are ready for anything. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just not your pajamas or sweatpants. You will be surprised at how much more motivated this makes you.
