Well, it is finally here! Two things really. It’s finally officially winter, although you would never know it with the massive heatwave we have been having. I mean really guys, it’s going to be 60 degrees on Christmas! I will take it gladly! It is also officially winter break for the teens. I use to dread having to come up with ways to keep them occupied when they were younger and had the attention span of squirrel. Now I love having them home for break. We can certainly get ourselves into some mischief. They are so much fun to hang out with. One of our favorite chill out activities is still, and always will be gathering around the tv for a great Family Movie Night.
Since this was the teens last day of school before winter break, we went all out with the junk food and had ourselves a great time. Now normally we would go with their version of a comedy (I call them “stupid funny” movies) but this time, they actually let me pick! Since it is the holidays and since we always need a great feel good family movie night
I chose the movie War Room. I couldn’t have picked a better movie. War Room has a very strong and powerful message. The power of prayer and having faith in what you believe in. In an uplifting way, the movie shows you to have faith and follow your heart. With a little comedy and drama all rolled in. War Room would also be a perfect movie for any date night or girls night in too! There is even a great offer from VUDU at the bottom of this post for you!
We piled up the Peanut M&M’S® Chocolate Candies for the teens and the plain ones just for me, Orville Redenbacher movie theater popcorn in its own popup bowl is perfect for passing too. Since I have such a weakness for Diet Coke, you know that had to be included too.
The teens aren’t fans of anything diet, so good old fashion Coca-Cola it is. Since I had Coca-Cola on hand I decided to whip up a batch of our favorite Sweet & Spicy Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce. You won’t believe how simple this is to make, and it goes perfectly with your favorite chicken wings, chicken poppers, even barbecue ribs.

Just look at all the garlic in there! If you are a fan of sweet heat flavors, you will love this sauce. The best part about it, other than the taste, of course, is that it will take you less than 15 minutes to whip up a batch of this thick and spicy sauce. Anytime we can find a shortcut to help with our Menu Plan, we always take advantage of it. That is why I love to stock up on frozen, precooked chicken wings when I am shopping at Walmart. I can toss these babies in the oven right when I am starting the sauce and by the time they are cooked the Sweet & Spicy Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce is ready.
You can make your own batch too! Just follow these easy instructions…
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Coca-Cola
- 1 Cup Ketchup
- 1/4 Cup Worcheshire
- 1 Tbs Steak Sauce
- 1/4 Cup Hot Sauce
- 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
- In a medium size pot, combine all ingredients and whisk them together.
- Cook on medium heat until the sauce reaches a boil.
- Continue to boil until the sauce is reduced to a bit more than half.
- Take off the heat and set aside.
- Once your chicken wings are done cooking place them in a mixing bowl. Pour enough sauce over the wings to give them a generous coating of your Sweet & Spicy Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce.
- Want the sauce even thicker? In a small cup mix 1 Tablespoon cornstarch and 1 Tablespoon cold water together. Whisk into your sauce to thicken.
- Makes 2 – 2 1/2 Cups of Barbecue Sauce.
- Refrigerate unused sauce in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
- Note: You can adjust the heat level in this recipe simply by adding more or less of the hot sauce to the recipe.
