When it comes to dessert in the summer, we tend to go light and refreshing most of the time. Once in a while you need something gorgeous and sweet that tastes incredible!
These super cute Summertime Flower Cupcakes are exactly what you need to WOW your guests and satisfy their sweet tooth at the same time. They look like something you would buy at a specialty shop, but are incredibly simple to make. We will keep that our little secret!
Summertime Flower Cupcakes – PIN IT FOR LATER
I made these cupcakes for my mom’s 60th birthday party and they were a HUGE hit. Everyone loved them, and commented on how exquisite they looked. Little did they know it took me less time to make all of the cupcakes than it would to make a basic sheet cake with plain ol’ frosting. Of course I didn’t offer up that information. I will just keep that to myself …. and all of you!

You can make your own beautiful blooms on a cupcake too! Here is how we did it…
Summertime Flower Cupcakes
What you will need:
- 12 cupcakes (try our Mocha Cupcakes or use your favorite recipe) – baked, cooled and ready to be frosted
- Frosting of your choice – I think white makes the color stand out but you can color it to match the sugar color if you like.
- Mini marshmallows (I used 10-13 for each flower)
- Decorating sugar – what ever color you want your petals to be
- White sugar
- Candy coated chocolate
- Sour apple candy licorice (optional)
- A ribbon to tie your bouquet together

To make the cupcakes:
Work with one cupcake at a time – Frost your cupcake
Cut 13 mini marshmallows in half on a diagonal (from corner to corner) This will automatically make your petal shape.
Dip the cut side into the colored sugar (You can do all one color or alternate from colored to white every other petal – alternating was my favorite look)
Starting with the inside row press the petals into the frosting cut side up. Alternating with white sugar dipped and colored sugar dipped if desired.
When you complete the full circle around the inside of the cupcake make your second row just outside the first but lay the next row of petals between the 2 from the first row (see image above) . Continue until your flower is complete.
I used Sour green apple twizzler pull and peels for the “stems” in mom’s 60th bouquet below and just tied a cute little ribbon around them.
So so easy and looks like it took hours of time and detail to get it right. You will have so much fun making these! Be sure to let us know if you have a chance to give these a try. I would love to see the color combinations you come up with.
