Graduation Gift Upcycled DIY!
It is graduation time for many wonderful, deserving, hard-working students. What better way to keep them motivated and on the right path than with an inspirational DIY graduation gift personalized just for them?
For this post, I chose to upcycle a basic, standard globe that I found at a local thrift shop.
With 2 coats of black chalk paint all over the surface of the globe, and 2 coats of white chalk paint all over the arm or globe stand, the globe has been transformed, and ready for all of the inspirational words and sayings.
What is Opal Vinyl?
For this project, I wanted to use classic school colors, with a little bit of a twist. Opal Vinyl starts off as a shimmering color, but with a flick of the wrist, flash of light, or glimpse of sunlight, the color changes in an instant.
If you want an entire spectrum of colors on one sheet of vinyl, opal is exactly what you need! The colors change as you move them around
Opal Vinyl White, Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Amber, Orange, Bright Green, and Gold.
DIY Inspirational Words For Graduates
Using my Cricut cutting machine
, I chose words that I thought would lift and inspire our graduate. Who, by the way, is my son’s girlfriend of three years. She is my bonus daughter, and I love her to pieces!
Once I had all of the words typed into Cricut design space, I started selecting different fonts that I thought would pair nicely with each other.
Some were cut on the blue Opal Vinyl, and some were cut on the yellow Opal Vinyl. Just look at that shimmer!
Wither her name front and center on one side, and the school name on the other side, I placed the words all around the globe. Alternating blue and yellow, with a few graduation items placed around them also to complete the piece.
I wasn’t quite sure if it needed something on the top. Some greenery, a pretty bow, or just leave it plain. After looking at it for a while, I decided a few small tassels would be just the right finishing touch.
