I know Halloween is supposed to be spooky and scary, but why not add a little sparkle and whimsy to your holiday decor. This is a fast DIY that you can have done in just an afternoon, or evening while watching tv. The most time-consuming part of this project is waiting for the Mod Podge to dry. Here is how we added fun and sparkle to our Halloween Decor.

Easy Halloween DIY Glitter BOO Lights – Pin It For Later!

We don’t have a mantel in our house, so when I decorate for holidays I decorate the dining room buffet I made over last year. It is the focal point of the room, so it just makes sense to add my decor there for all to see. This year for Halloween I wanted to do a little spooky mixed with some fun and sparkle. Since I didn’t really own any glitter Halloween goodies, we made our own with craft supplies I already had on hand. A little help from my Cricut Explore and the pieces came together in no time.

What you will need..

The supplies and decorative ribbon for this project were all part of my constantly growing craft stash. I tend to buy way more than I usually need when I am putting together a new piece. Times like this my craft hoarding obsession comes in handy. Since I purchased these supplies at various places I don’t have exact links for some, but I have included Amazon links for the same, or similar items for your convenience.

Supplies

How To

Start with a clean, dust-free glass fish bowl.

Coat the inside with a thick layer of Mod Podge using your foam paint brush.

Pour a generous amount of orange glitter into the fishbowl. I recommend doing the next step over a bowl or layer of newspaper for less mess.

Turn the bowl to cover the entire inside with glitter. Adding more glitter if needed. Until all of the mod podge is covered in glitter. Empty the excess back into the bottle to use for later.

Set aside to dry

Once the inside is dry, glue your base to the bottom of the fish bowl using E6000 glue. I used wooden napkin rings painted black for this project.

Apply the vinyl B O O letters to the outside of your fish bowl. You can cut the letters using your Cricut or Silhouette Cutting machines. If you don’t have access to a cutting machine, you can also purchase vinyl stickers from Amazon or your local craft store.

Using a hot glue gun, add a fun Halloween ribbon around the top for a finishing touch.

Place battery operated string lights in each bowl to complete the look.

Dollar Tree Halloween Decor Items

These fun Easy Halloween DIY BOO Lights look perfect in the center of the buffet. I made a quick stop at my local Dollar Tree for the extra accessories. The skulls are so creepy, it gives it the spooky Halloween feel next to the sparkle and whimsy of the BOO lights. A little netting and a glittery spider add just the right touch. The only thing it is missing is some yummy candy in the goblets. Those were also made using a glass fish bowl, glued to the top of a glass candle holder with E6000 glue. Very easy and a quick addition to any decor. You can add candles, flowers, or candy like I suggested before.

Halloween .. Take it or leave it?

Are you a fan of decorating for Halloween? When we were young, Halloween was a major holiday at our house. My dad would always dress in the most extreme costumes. Everything from a dead Elvis to a Ware wolf! They were always so realistic and spooky, never anything cutesy and charming. One of my favorite memories of Halloween was taking part in the haunted hayrides. My dad was also one of the characters in the hay rides. One year, my brother and I were included too. We were kids on the hayride with all of the other riders, but halfway through the ride we were kidnapped by the scary ware-wolf (my dad!) and taken off into the woods. As creepy as that sounds, it still to this day makes me smile at how much fun we always had during Halloween.

  1. These are so awesome. I love a bit of glitter in any holiday decor…why not Halloween too. I love your Halloween Hayride memories. I can’t even imagine being on that hayride and having the kid next to me be kidnapped into woods. I think I would have been traumatized!!
