11 DIY Earring Holder Ideas For All Styles

Jewelry is beautiful, especially earrings. Whether your go-to style choice is understated stud earrings or artsy dangling earrings. That’s why I’ve always found it odd that we take some of the prettiest things we own (and often the most valuable) and hide them away in a drawer or jewelry boxes. It just doesn’t make sense. That’s where making your own DIY earring holder comes in.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some beautiful jewelry boxes out there. But why can’t we display our gorgeous pieces of mini art and have these beautiful boxes as well? I saw we can! But the thing about jewelry displays, especially earring displays, is that they tend to be expensive.

But when you create them yourself, they don’t have to be. Below is a comprehensive list of all the incredible earring display ideas that exist. (And if you really don’t have that DIY urge, we’ve found a few inexpensive alternatives you can purchase. See the end of this post.)

DIY Earring Holder with Chicken Wire

Of all the designs I’ve seen out there, I’d say half include some use of chicken wire. This design, however, I love for its simplicity and its difficulty level. Which I’d definitely say is low.

One of the easiest things about using chicken wire is that you don’t have to worry about drilling holes. And if you’re not crafty like that, or don’t have a drill, this is a perfect earring display approach to take.

What you’ll need:

  • Some sort of frame
  • Chicken wire
  • Hammer and nails

Note: There are a variety of different types of chicken wire, pick a mesh that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical for your earrings.

Cheese Graters Earring Holder for Dangly Earrings

A friend of mine did something very similar to this with her daughter. During the early days of the pandemic they wanted to tackle a few DIY projects but consider themselves DIY novices. So instead of “building” anything, they started with painting a few things.

How cute is the color of this DIY earring stand? I also love how they added pearls to the bottom to make it a little fancier!

Note: Not all paint will adhere properly to metal. So make sure you’re buying a paint that is made specifically for this use. Here are a few of my fav paints:

Rust-Oleum 342918 Universal All Surface Spray Paint

Use a Basket as an Earring Holder

So this is a basket meets macrame DIY earring holder. And again, maybe it’s cheating. But what really is the definition of DIY? It’s “do it yourself”? And in my opinion. If you come up with a great new way to use something, aren’t you doing something yourself?

But how can you not love this idea? You can organize your toiletries while also displaying your beautiful earrings.
