Fun, Food and lots of Love Shared in my trip to South Carolina!

I know it has been kind of quiet around here this past week, but I really did have a great reason! I was surprised with a trip to visit my oldest son and his beautiful family for my birthday/Mothers day. It was my first trip ever by myself, and it was beyond perfect in every way. I was able to spend time with my wonderful oldest son who is a U.S Marine and has just returned home from 6 months in Japan. His amazing wife and my precious little granddaughter. It was a week of relaxation, long walks on the beach (to use the bathroom haha), and food that was out of this world delicious.

My flight didn’t land until very late Friday night so everyone was asleep when we got home. As much as I wanted to run in and jump on the bed to wake everyone up, I refrained myself and waited until the next morning. Having coffee and playing play doh with this little beauty was so worth the wait.

We spent the morning at the local farmers market. The food and produce was incredible. So fresh and you could smell the kettle corn and even chinese dumplings cooking right at the booths. We spotted this beautiful owl being showcased by Low Country Raptors .org Isn’t she gorgeous? This incredible day ended with a meal fit for a king! Did I mention my daughter in law Vika is a superb home cook? I haven’t had food this good in …well… never! Teriyaki Salmon, cajun shrimp, steak, potatoes, corn on the cob and sauteed mushrooms. I ate so much I thought I was going to burst! Not to mention she turned me from a salmon hater to an … oh I need to make that at home salmon lover!

Sunday was a lazy day! Lots of talking, painting and catching up on my educational TV (Tinkerbell , Brave and of course Disney Channel) My painting partner had so much more skill than I did. Future crafter for Daily DIY Life I do believe! Ending the day with an amazing Hawaiian Luau themed dinner made by Vika. Hawaiian pulled pork, rice, pork shish kabobs, lomi lomi, poke, macaroni salad and kings hawaiian rolls. (I think I had already gained 50 pounds!)

We took a day trip on Monday to the beach in Savannah, GA. The weather was perfect and we had that part of the beach almost entirely to our self. The kids played in the sand while grandma took some awesome pictures. Sand castles and mermaids were created and lots of memories were made. We ended the day at Sakura Buffet  in Savannah…. WOW what a treat that was. I even tried FROG LEGS for the first time. Loved them! They really do taste like chicken! haha

Tuesday we decided to head to GA again. Before we got our fun on, we stopped at Sonic for a cherry lime ade, boy I forgot how much I loved them! We don’t have Sonic here in WV. And Chick Fil A for lunch. I can no longer say I have never had Chik Fil A! It was delicious, and the Chik sauce should be sold by the bottle. YUM! After lunch we stopped at Pirates Island Mini Golf Course to putt a few rounds. How are you suppose to concentrate on golfing with an opponent this cute? Another fun day with the family making memories!

Wednesday afternoon we played tourist on downtown Beaufort. Stopped at the park for a little fun, look even grandma was swinging! Walked along the streets of Beaufort and saw some amazing southern homes. I love the classic elegance here, its breath taking. The trees were so creepy I had to take pictures. The way the moss hangs off of them gives it such a horror movie feel. LOL Someone said there is spiders in the moss, or I might have taken some home.  We ended out the day with a fantastic meal TJ cooked for us. Baked chicken, salad, potatoes and vegetables. I think I was up to gaining 100 pounds at this point! Delicious!

My last day of the trip was a bitter sweet one for sure. I missed my family at home, but it broke my heart to leave these sweet kids that made my stay so exceptional. We headed to Charleston, SC and took a walk through the market they have right on the main street. This market was packed with vendors from food to souvenirs and it was 4 – 5 blocks long. There really was something for everyone here. I picked up some T-Shirts and key chains to bring home with me. Along with a big fat piece of chocolate peanut butter fudge from The Fudgery for the plane ride.

I had an amazing week visiting with the kids. They truly spoiled me rotten. I am forever grateful for the chance to visit and make memories with them and look forward to going back very soon. I love you so much TJ, Vika and Kamilla!

Thank you for such a wonderful time! xoxoxoxo Mom!
